8 Daily Habits for Vocal Feminization to Help You Achieve Your Goals

Keeping your voice healthy is a lifestyle! If you’re ready to keep your voice in shape for the long run, try these 8 daily habits.

1. Get Good Sleep

When you don’t get good rest at night, it’s hard to have the energy for voice training. Vocal feminization takes both mental and physical energy. It’s easy to let your practice go by the wayside when you’re just not feeling up to it.

Getting a good night’s sleep will help your vocal cords physically rest, and also give you the energy and motivation to get your practice in.

2. DRINK Water

Staying hydrated is extremely important for the health of your voice. Without hydrated vocal cords, it takes much more effort to get your vocal cords vibrating. That can lead to added muscle tension in and around the larynx.

Stay hydrated by drinking 64 oz of water per day and using a humidifier in dry climates.

3. Stretch

Tension is a common issue for many going through the vocal feminization process. In order to make changes in the voice, the muscles all throughout your body need to be flexible.

Try doing some full body stretches or some yoga at the beginning of the day.

4. Meditation

It’s important to be in touch with your body throughout this process. As you make changes in your voice, it’s helpful to feel the sensations of your new voice so you can make it a habit.

Meditation is a great way to be more aware of the sensations in your body. Try a body scan meditation each day.

5. Vocal Warm Ups

Vocal warm ups are essential for keeping your voice in good shape for vocal feminization.

Try an SOVT exercise for 2 minutes, 3 times per day.

6. Healthy Foods

Your vocal cords can be affected by the foods that you eat. Some say that they notice more mucus in their throats when they eat dairy. Others may struggle with acid reflux, and experience heartburn when they eat spicy foods, coffee, or fried foods.

Pay attention to any differences in your voice when you eat certain foods. Adjust your diet to one that makes you feel the best in your voice.

7. Vocal Awareness

As you continue on your journey, you will become more and more aware of how your voice feels.

If your voice feels tired, hoarse, or tense, be sure to properly rest and do SOVTEs so it doesn’t become a bigger issue.

8. Practice

And of course, practice. The more you make these healthy voice habits a part of your lifestyle, the more you’ll be motivated to maintain a practice routine.

Practice for short amounts of time several times a day.
